As a vital corridor connecting Fanshi County in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, with Lingqiu County in Datong City, Matou Mountain Tunnel not only carries heavy traffic flow but also faces significant lighting challenges under extreme weather conditions. Recently, to enhance the lighting quality inside the tunnel and reduce energy consumption, the tunnel management department initiated a streetlight upgrade project. The Maotoushan Tunnel is designed as separate tunnels for the left and right lines. The right-line tunnel has a total length of 1,789 meters, while the left-line tunnel is 1,686 meters long, with a maximum overburden depth of approximately 236 meters. The tunnel's geographical location and climatic conditions place high demands on the lighting system. The local climate features long winters, short summers, extended cold periods, rainfall and heat occurring in the same season, and strong monsoon activity. The average annual temperature is 7°C, with a maximum recorded temperature of 37.3°C and an extreme minimum of -30°C.
